About the Role:

The Perry Institute for Marine Science (PIMS) is hiring a professional with a strong work ethic to help expand its Reef Rescue Network (RRN), a growing network of coral nursery and restoration sites around The Bahamas established in

collaboration with Scientists, NGOs and business partners. The purpose of the network is to increase the scale of coral restoration in The Bahamas and elsewhere in the region by building capacity of local partners for the establishment,

maintenance and monitoring of coral nurseries and restoration sites, including providing technical support and training in best practices and advances in the field of coral nurseries and reef restoration.

The RRN Program Assistant will assist the RRN Coordinator and other PIMS staff with coral restoration, including (1) the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of coral nurseries and restoration sites; (2) building capacity within local partners for establishing, maintaining and monitoring coral nurseries; (3) collecting data from coral nurseries and restoration sites; (4) participation in other coral reef research and monitoring programs led by PIMS; and (5) communicating results of coral restoration activities and representing PIMS and the RRN to key stakeholders and the general public. The Program Assistant will work alongside the RRN Coordinator to provide operations coordination and program support. This position requires someone with an interest in coral restoration, scientific research, education, stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and science communication. The desired candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as great organizational and time management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the RRN Coordinator, PIMS science staff and various partners to manage a network of coral nurseries and restoration sites
• Coordinate logistics for the RRN, including organizing activities and developing education, outreach and communication materials
• Assist RRN Coordinator with creating and maintaining relationships with partners, stakeholders, researchers, etc
• Help train local partners and stakeholders in coral restoration, including instruction of the PADI Reef Rescue Diver Specialty Course
• Assist with data collection and analysis
• Represent RRN and PIMS at community events

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Associates in Conservation, Marine or Environmental Science, Science Education, or a related field or 1-2 years of equivalent experience.
• SCUBA certification at the Dive Master or Instructor level
• At least 2 years of work experience in The Bahamas and/or small island developing countries
• Experience working within the dive industry, preferably at manager level.
• Experience with coral restoration activities such as the establishment and maintenance of coral nurseries, outplanting corals to reefs, and data collection.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Confident in working with a variety of people at all levels from schools, businesses to government.
• Dynamic and engaging public speaking skills
• Familiarity and experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms
• Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented
• Willingness to travel extensively and comfortable working remotely
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direct supervision
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and Powerpoint)

Desired/Additional Qualifications & Skills

• Passionate about marine and environmental issues
• BSc/BA in Conservation, Marine or Environmental Science, Science Education, or a related field or 2-3 years of equivalent experience
• PADI IDC Staff Instructor (in current teaching status)
• PADI Reef Rescue Diver Instructor (in current teaching status)
• Emergency First Response Instructor (in current teaching status)
• Experience teaching all levels of PADI courses.
• Experience in dive safety plans and staff training.
• AGRRA certified in at least one category.
• Social media content creation
