CMRC Program Development

Funding is available for the development of research and education programs in the Wider Caribbean Region through the Caribbean Marine Research Center (Caribbean Marine Research Center) under the auspices of the NOAA's National Undersea Research Program (NURP).

Investments of program development funds are used to stimulate nationally important scientific research at NOAA's marine laboratory in the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean. These investments are intended to provide researchers the opportunity to strengthen future proposals. It is our intention that program development funds will focus on initiating projects that stimulate additional proposal submissions to other Federal, State, local, industry, or private institutions.

2005 Program Development Projects included:
  • Earth Science III: Studying Climate Change (Teacher Workshop) Zach Smith, Ph.D. (Tufts University)
  • Coral Reef Early Warning Systems (CREWS) - Bahamas and St. Croix James Hendee, Ph.D. (Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory)
  • Modeling a new discovery paradigm: ocean genomics Michael Lombardi, Ph.D. (Perry Institute for Marine Science)
  • Coral Culture for Research at Lee Stocking Island Erich Mueller, Ph.D. (Perry Institute for Marine Science)
  • An integrative analysis of environmental factors, coral population and community structure, microbial community composition, and pathogen associated with coral diseases near Lee Stocking Island, Bahamas Laurie Richardson, Ph.D. (Department of Biology, Florida International University)
  • The influence shelter variability in a coral reef fish Richard Vance, Ph.D. (Dept. of Organismic Biology, Ecology, and Evolution, University of California)
