Developing the Next Generation of Scientists
The Situation
Classrooms and university laboratories are essential for the education of our future scientists and stewards of the ocean. However, hands-on field training is also crucial so these future leaders can put theory into practice.
The Goal
Our goal was to establish the Perry Institute for Marine Science as a leader in the education of our next generation of marine scientists.
The Approach
We offer numerous internships and field research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students studying all areas of science at our Lee Stocking Island research facility and our Jupiter, Florida headquarters. We also provide use of the Caribbean Marine Research Center for students to conduct their thesis and dissertation research.
The Result
In the last five years, more than 50 students have used Perry Institute for Marine Science opportunities to obtain graduate level degrees.
